What kind of Future World do you Want?

In the past world, the 'American' style thinking was :

'Here is a beautiful beach, let's develop the hell out of it'.

They built massive resorts and hotels, road systems, and brought in the tourists by the bucket loads.

But is that beach now still beautiful?

What made it beautiful in the first place?

Does being surrounded by thousands of other tourists, crowding out the beaches, needing to get a taxi or Uber to get from one sterile place to the next, qualify as a 'feel good' experience?

With that type of thinking we could end up with a world which looks like one big developed Las Vegas unless we rethink what really matters.

I don't think they have done this with ski resorts, or mountain regions like the Himalayas, but what would happen if people with that type of thinking got their hands on all these other beautiful places? Already cheap airlines like Ryan Air which began in Ireland, started to bring in the 'bucket loads' of low standard tourists to out of the way destinations at that time, which were Poland, Estonia etc. Great for the economy! Then people living in those countries became worried, because these rough and often vulgar tourists were ruining their countries and their lifestyle.

July 29th

For my visa renewal trip I arrived in Tijuana at 4pm local time and went immediately to cross the bridge to San Diego.

They were very helpful. The return cross border ticket was 50 USD. There is not much on the US side but I waited there until just after midnight, then tried the crossing back. This also was stress free. The fee for getting the 'visa' was 687 pesos (so 700 pesos). Thats basically the cost involved to get the via via this route - the $50 USD and then 700 pesos plus there is a $6 USD permit form. I arrived back in Tijuana by 1 am then waited for my 6 pm flight that evening! I just spent the entire trip at the airport, not staying at a hotel. I did wait in the VIP lounge in Tijuana which allows 8 hours on a 'Day Pass'. This was a great help. Almost all the flights were 'Delayed' but my flight was okay! This is good and I should be able to return to SE Asia at the end of August.

In most of SE Asia the prices for everything are about the same as they were in 2019. Before I got my apartment in Kuala Lumpur I stayed in an excellent place with 'pods' accommodation, set in the penthouse of a centre of the city, really top location. There was, and still is, loads of of co-worker space, and a cafe area out on the balcony/patio - they even had a "street musician" for entertainment. The prices now, are still the same.

Prices in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico are gradually going through the roof for accommodation, food at cafes, and even water.

Even the prices of hostels are more than double what they were and what you would expect - for hostels that are not the American continent or London/Paris etc. A lot of people on limited incomes from Canada used to come down here for the winter called 'Snowbirds' but these prices are going to put a stop to that being possible for them. I have already covered that in my view there is no reason particularly to come to PV anyway. It does not offer anything much. When I return to KL I plan to write a great deal about the many, many ways you will lose money and not receive correct services in Puerto Vallarta.

You will also get slop served up as food, without any conscience about it whatsoever. Today I went to the better one of two Greek restaurants in PV and the hummus I was served was old and watered down. I had tried Oh Croissant before that and it looks like they have new owners. Firstly they didn't know that the quiche was quiche. They thought it was a cake, and that a quiche was the small single serve version. Now they think it is a 'cake' the price is 130 pesos whereas previously it was at least half that price. But they think it is a cake! I cancelled the order because this is wrong to do this. I will never go there again.

New section on Puerto Vallarta - Nuevo Vallarta added.

Puerto Vallarta was 'discovered' as a beautiful place because it was a quaint, pretty fishing village. I had to be told it was once a pretty fishing village because there is no pretty village there now.

Nuevo Vallarta was unattractive flat land but with better beaches, located in the next State up from Puerto Vallarta in Jalisco. Clearly they tried to cash in on Puerto Vallarta's business.

For my continuing commentary on 'Mexico' please see the PV section below.

July 26th

You can see from the initial videos added below why I personally much prefer the Bali style, totally stress free, laid back environment of where I was living. Also the Indonesian island of Bali itself, with its ancient temples and naturalness.

For my trips to Poland and Finland, the thermal, quilted clothes needed for there, I buy in Kuala Lumpur, as the best place to get these. Poland is freezing in winter!

NEW MUSIC : Didgeridoo music with the didgeridoo.

There is some music I want to add here, evocative, and features some didgeridoo, but I don't know the name of the track or the artist and it was around the year 2000 - so no chance! But I'm looking for it. Here's an Aussie Bird instead. 28 seconds.

MORE NEW MUSIC. I can't find the track I want yet but this is the didgeridoo in a modern music genre, Someone recommends 7:55

Then continue at around 35.45. I haven't gone thru this yet but it seems like it is a nice mix, I just found this youtube.

Here's a 2 minute video on the region I was living in Australia.

It all looks completely rural, but all the high-end hotels are here just not seen, they are usually blended naturally into rainforest or lush tropical settings.

Watch Video.

This is 4 mins and covers where I was living in Australia, a real shopping mall (5 seconds on that) and the village of my official address Kuranda. Produced by Expedia which went all out with the Aussie accent. Still a pretty video. It shows the seemingly safe and peaceful waters where the crocodiles are - and there have been a number of American tourists who despite all warnings, have dived in for a swim and been eaten by a crocodile - it even became a topic of jokes, like "what do they find in a croc's stomach? Fish, wood, and the occasional American tourist". Watch Video.

NEW, There are many high end places to stay in this region but as said, they are all nestled into the landscape while the town itself does have a high energy, pumping night life, but not shown. This video was nice and very typical of this area. I've added it to show this kind of thing. There is also a helicopter service to get around. Its short. Watch Video.

New This (above) is a Balinese style home. The style of Bali, Indonesia. .Also, I've mentioned the helicopters, but it is not uncommon for people to have their own plane to get around, a small Cessna. Of course. you have to get your pilot's license. (There are lessons at Cairns Airport).

But in 2019 I moved to live here in Poland,

to Krakow, a nice city with its own castle, which I had to leave in 2022 and come to PV because the war broke out in the Ukraine (but I will ultimately return to Poland when the world situation has settled.). I was in the process of moving to Krakow in 2019./2020 but just happened to be caught in Kuala Lumpur when the lockdowns came in. Watch Video I would be going to Krakow as my destination to leave Mexico, but for the war.

MUSIC - Finland

Internet comments : "As a Finnish person i really like this song. And this is much better than our national anthem. They should make this our new national anthem. I'm 100% in for that." 2 years ago. "My daughter just went to Finland on a school trip from Canada. We sang this song for months as she prepared to go. It’s a classic." 2 months ago. "This should be Finland's national anthem."

And from me : My brother was living in Finland and my niece was at school there. It's a ferry trip across from the port of Gdansk in northern Poland. I was planning to go up to Finland (from living in Poland in 2019) just before covid.

And : Monty Python - Constitutional Peasants Scene

Puerto Vallarta was 'discovered' by actors Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, because it was a quaint, pretty fishing village,

not because of its environment and landscape.

From that, the land around this village was developed into an American style monstrosity for mainly North American tourists, with endless condos for people from North America to buy.

The same Americans who routinely jump into the croc invested waters in northern Australia and get eaten by crocodiles.

The pretty fishing village itself was completely overlooked, except for the creation of a promenade - which concreted over the original charm that was once the fishing village. It concreted over the cobbled stone pathways that once led down to the fishing boats - which made this place charming. Doing this moved the focus to the seafront and away from the village. The seafront itself is nothing special, not the water or the 'beach'. Then they built modern features, most notably a pier a little further down from the promenade!

Nobody comes to see what was once the pretty fishing village, and it is now nothing at all.

I am discussing Puerto Vallarta.

Nuevo Vallarta seems to have better beaches but is still a concrete monstrosity. This is in the next State north of Jalisco. Full of condos, and resorts, really ugly. Nothing for your soul.

Here is a video on Nuevo Vallarta. (Video is up there now.)

The guy presenting it has a lot of trouble finding any access to the beach!

Then he gets access to the beach but there are no cafes or restaurants, only the resorts!

A day like this as shown in the video, would be through the roof stressful.

The number one reason people like this area is because of the 3 something mile beach - IF YOU CAN GET ON IT! You have to be in one of the resorts. I would never choose to go to a place like this Watch Video.

According to the video, no cafes and restaurants and no downtown area, just resorts. A bit more on offer at the Marina, there are cafes there.

Picture below is Australia, and a beach I would also never choose to go to, and absolutely never choose to live there.

Nuevo Vallarta is similar to SURFERS PARADISE in Australia which is an Australian soulless monstrosity! Places like these do not nurture the soul.

There is no problem accessing the beach though.

I know they have nice beaches on the Caribbean side of Mexico, and these are nice beaches north of here, but ruined by the buildings. I was going to visit Nuevo Vallarta at some time in the future as a thing yet to do, but I don't think I will do that now.

Mexico's 'airport immigration' seem to think everyone wants to live in Mexico - or work here where the wages are nothing. I saw one ad. for 2000 peseos a week. Probably they have no idea how advanced, and superior, countries in the 'east' are. Not Australia, I mean places like Singapore. People from 'America' do want to live here in Mexico, but in a recent interview asking Europeans what they thought of America, they said they thought it was ' 3rd world' with money. (It doesn't even have the money now.) I miss Southeast Asia, and the life and people so much. I am 'homesick' and missing my life very much. I'm even missing the airport.

Singapore's Changi Airport has to be the best airport come luxury hotel lobby/shopping mall/gardens in the world! It really spoils you. Usually handles around 65 million passsengers. Mexico City had 42 million in 2022 because so many travel from the USA and Canada. There is a massive difference in the standards of these two airports. . Watch Video: this is only Terminal 4 Jewel, and not my favourite terminal. Just by featuring an airport, you can see I am soooo missing SE Asia. Singapore in 1 minute and 50 seconds. This city is beautifully designed and clean and super efficient, but the video doesn't show the superb bars and clubs.

On the map, Malaysia and Singapore are just under the wide expanse of blue shown on the left!

Is this the summer of bad tourists?

BBC World News. "From vandalising ancient sites to disrespecting local culture, we're increasingly aware of travellers misbehaving."

"What's different about this summer is we're increasingly hearing about bad travellers. With each new report of cringeworthy, tone-deaf or just plain disrespectful behaviour, our collective outrage seems to be rising, leading to what could just be a moment of reckoning for bad tourists."
