Mexico or the entire North American continent, was never on my list of places to go to. I had been there many, many times in an earlier life, as I was part of a show which toured the countries of Mexico and in South America. The shows were in upmarket hotels like the Sheraton and as showbiz guests we stayed at the hotel itself,as our place of residence. But I had been there and done that with Mexico, and was not a fan of how the USA had developed. So I had no interest whatsoever, in going to Mexico. However, being in Poland when the war in the Ukraine began meant I had to look again. For one thing, it was winter in Poland and so cold and miserable that I did not feel I wanted to go for the Residence Permit I had planned to do. I had slipped twice in the snow and both times had to be picked up off the ground by strangers because I couldn't get up! I am not used to snow. The war in the country next door made that decision a certainty. I then had to find an airline I could use to get out of Poland, and that turned out to be Turkish Airways. I had researched Mexico and everything I read stated that we would get a permit/visa for 6 months on arrival, so that made the decision viable. The first difficulty I encountered was while I was trying to book my flight from Mexico City to Puerto Vallarta before I left Poland. I discovered that I could not use my Australian card for some online bookings in North America because of some glitch. That became a worry because I had bought the flight to Mexico City but then had to wonder if my card was okay to buy any further flights. I had to fly from Warsaw and decided because of my luggage to try the bus, which seemed simple enough. I had used these very good buses earlier to go from Krakow to Berlin. It turned out to not be so good this time. Also, there were thousands of people who had been working in the Ukraine also trying to travel at that time. I was unable to book a better quality hotel because they were insisting on 'death jab' certificates. I ended up in a container place which was okay, and I did make it to the airport safely. Then I flew to Mexico. After an expensive overall flight from ASIA to Mexico (because my journey originated in Kuala Lumpur) the passport control gave me a visa for 2 months. I could not believe it. All that money spent on a flight for a fairly useless 2 months. If it was possible, or ever is possible, I think that Mexico should be sued for this. I definitely would have made different arrangements had I known that, so it caused me to lose a couple of thousand dollars because of that. I would have stayed with the Resident's Permit idea in Poland. I stayed at a good place at the airport but had to stay there longer because of booking the flight onwards to Puerto Vallarta. That was for Saturday March 5th, so I suppose I was at the airport accommodation for about 4 nights. I had seen that the hostels in PV were quite expensive and did not look very good, and I booked one of them, but changed it the night before the flight there to the one I remained in. I had booked for a driver to meet me, but this was my first experience of the rorts that go on in this place yet is considered a legitimate business. There was no driver booked. What they did was meet me, then get a taxi! So that cost me twice as much as the aleady inflated taxi fares from the airport into the city. On arrival at my chosen hostel, I was worried when the door was opened and I was met by a fierce looking person with a fierce looking dog. That turned out okay though, and I could see that in all ways this place would be ideal for what I needed in being in Puerto Vallarta. Not long after that though, I encountered a myriad number of things that made it less ideal than I had thought. The next thing I discovered was that I could not use my card at most of the bank ATM's. I eventually found one bank I could use, Yet there was always the possibility that that could change and I couldn't even use that one. Then I tried to get a card for my cell phone and discovered that there are no plans available for phoning anywhere but in Mexico and to the States and Canada. In fact, it is not possible to phone Australia at all. If I needed to do so in an emergency I would have to do it through the Australian Embassy. It was necessary in almost the blink of an eye to have to find a country I could go to in order to return and renew my visa to stay in Mexico. The country had to be vaxx free and not require anything related to 'death jab' certificates etc, and the only place was Gautemala. This was actually quite pricey to do, for such an unnecessary reason. The visa was necessary but there was no logical reason to have forced me into that situation after only 8 weeks in the country. This time I was given 6 months though, so that was a positive. I really thought I would be out of the country and back in Asia by about August. Then I thought it must be by Christmas. Then I thought it surely must be by April!... The price of buying medicines here is through the roof. Only Americans would come here and pay these prices, hence 'ripping people off' thrives. I don't use much allopathic medicine, but some things I would get are so expensive - like 10 times the price I usually pay - that I just can't get any of it. Then I broke the sunglasses I had that fitted over my glasses and discovered that Mexico does not have anything like that, so I have the same ones now taped up on the side, which now remain lopsided! Next I broke my glasses and unbelievably discovered that for some reason Mexico could not make my lenses properly. This happened twice at two different places so I realised I was going to have to give up on that. I had previously discovered I could not get my contact lenses here. Additionally, for the first time ever, I had sat on my glasses, breaking two pairs. So this was a bit of a disaster. There is so much more to write, and it will be added soon. I want to get back to Asia, even to get new glasses - which I may absolutely have to do......and easily book my flights online....... and not have to keep travelling to renew visas...... and being able to phone wherever I like...... and know I can get money out of any ATM......and have access to 7 floor shopping malls......get to my hip hop dance classes.....and so on.
