The SUN is active. Expect ENERGY DISRUPTIONS!

Solar Flare Strengths:
X-class = very strong. They are major events that can trigger planet-wide radio blackouts and long-lasting radiation storms.
M-class = strong. They can cause brief radio blackouts that affect Earth's polar regions.
C-class = average.

X-CLASS SOLAR FLARE AND CME : On Thursday March 28th   a giant sunspot produced another X1-class solar flare. The explosion on March 28th at 2053 UT ionized the top of Earth's atmosphere and caused a deep shortwave radio blackout over the Pacific Ocean.

A Giant Sunspot has come back to Life,

producing multiple solar flares and shortwave radio blackouts on March 28th. The strongest flares so far (M7 @ 0629 UT and M6 @ 1556 UT) affected shortwave radio transmissions over the Indian Ocean and South America. Ham radio operators may be noticing intermittent loss of signal at frequencies below 20 MHz.

BIG CME IS COMING: This morning's X1-class solar flare hurled a bright CME directly toward Earth. G1-class (Minor) to G3-class (Strong) geomagnetic storms are possible when it arrives on March 25th or 26th.

But it arrived hours earlier than expected, and  struck Earth's magnetic field on March 24th at 1437 UT. The impact opened a crack in our planet's magnetosphere and sparked a severe G4-class geomagnetic storm.

STRONG X-CLASS SOLAR FLARE: The sun just produced a solar flare so strong, it took two sunspots to make it. The long-duration X1.1-class flare started on March 23rd around 0130 UT when both sources erupted. NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory recorded the double blast:
